Project Description

This project aims to revitalize and preserve the tradition of consuming *ONDO*—a local tuber—passed down through generations in Done Village, Magepanda District. Historically, *ONDO* has been stigmatized as a food consumed only during times of famine or drought, despite possessing high nutritional value and significant economic potential when processed into various food products.

Through this project, the younger generation is introduced to the nutritional benefits of *ONDO*, techniques for processing it into value-added products, and the importance of protecting the plant’s natural habitat as part of efforts to preserve local food sources amidst the challenges of climate change.

Activities Carried Out

  • Education on the nutritional value and benefits of consuming ONDO.
  • Mapping of ONDO habitats in Done Village.
  • Training on sustainable ONDO harvesting.
  • Training on the processing and packaging of ONDO-based products.
  • Assistance for the development of local food-based economic enterprises.
